Marilyn here. I said last week when blogging about Wayman Tisdale’s death that I would post a picture of that amazing smile. WAYMAN'S_SMILEI never saw an interview with him, not even after his leg was amputated and he was learning to get around with a prosthesis, that he didn’t flash that smile over and over.

The music in heaven just got a whole lot sweeter.

I’m sad at his passing even though I didn’t ‘know’ him or his music. I remember the basketball days. Now that you’ve got me interested in his music, I’ll really feel as if I’ve missed a true Oklahoma treasure.

Did you see any of his funeral? It was held at the BOK Center, with his band onstage playing while the pallbearers brought in the casket. The first pallbearer carried Wayman’s NBA basketball; the next ten had the casket and did a really impressive step. (The funeral director called it a march; I prefer to think of it as a dance.) It was a very upbeat service. They were definitely mourning, but there was no doubt in anyone’s mind where the big guy was, so there was celebration as well. It was very touching.
