Is It Timing or Fate?

Twisted Sister Meg here–back in beautiful Caddo Mills.

Thank you, Twisted Sister Susan, for keeping the blog going while I was on my travels, and trials.

Today is my 11th wedding anniversary, and I have probably picked out one of the worst gifts ever to Don. This may top the shotgun he always wanted that he gave me for birthday a few years ago. Even better than the Wii console I gave him for birthday last year. I bought the Guitar Hero World Tour band set. Amy is thrilled, and good man that Don is, he told me he was excited. {I heard the relieved sigh when he spotted the socks and tidy whities at the bottom of the pillowcase I usedfor a sack.}

The timing part is the problem. On Thursday night, he tripped over a 350 SB Chevy engine with long tail transmission, hit the McPhoenix roll cage first with his right shoulder, bounced off, slammed into the roll cage again with his left shoulder, then crashed onto the floor. When I see him in a prone “stick ‘em up” position and not moving, I go into rescue mode. The ambulance misses our house despite my signals, then they spend an hour trying to start an IV so Don can be transported to the ER.

Awesome Amy called the ER and had one of her fav doctor ready for Don when he arrived. Thanks to Dr Pierce for setting both shoulders even though it sounded like ripping a turkey leg off. Don’s injury is not common, and when my husband does something, he doesn’t go half way! There haven’t been too many documented double shoulder dislocations, so now I understand why there were 12 people in the treatment room.  Took 4 nurses to finally get an IV started in the top of his foot.

Giving Don drugs is quite amusing except for the fact that he was in pain. Thank goodness he didn’t hallucinate like he did with his knee replacement.  :-)    We cracked jokes with the staff, laughed that it was a new shirt that the EMT cut the shoulders out, watched the finale of Project Runway, although Don kept asking where Ms. Jay was. As far ER visits go, this one was relatively short and the care excellent.

Still. . .having Don hurt wasn’t the way we wanted to spend our special day. But it is just a day and part of the adventure of our marriage–I’ve got my own purple smurf. I’m sure we’ll have time to get really good on Guitar Hero and have that special drive in the country in the ‘Vette.

  • Congratulations on your 11th Anniversary! May there be many, many more!!

Loved your wedding pictures. It’s obvious y’all were so much in love . . . and even more so now. You’ve weathered ups and downs, had sickness (and accidents) and health and you love and support each other. I am so glad y’all found one another.

My sympathy’s to Don. What a nightmare. I cannot imagine how much pain he was in. And to have both arms out of commission at the same time . . . ouch. I hope he heals quickly and your world returns to normal. (Or is there such a thing as ‘normal’?)

    • Thanks, Linda!!!
Normal— bwahaahahhaaaaa! There is no normal at our house. He thinks it was a sign to NOT get back on the racing motorcycle he bought Thursday.
He is feeling much better, thank you.

  • I am glad I could help! Can’t wait for pictures! I can’t wait to play guitar hero too! :)

  • I’ve never seen your wedding pics before, Meg. How sad is that? Who’s in the 2nd pic with you and Big D?
I’m soooo sorry about his shoulders. That’s gotta smart! Poor guy.
Happy anniversary, sister. I so wish I could have been at your wedding. Still sorry I wasn’t there.

    • Thanks, Susan! It was a great small wedding. In the picture is my father and that’s Don’s mother.

We missed you at our wedding as it was special. Don planned the entire thing! When you come visit I’ll pull out the album. We gave the 4 kids cameras to snap pictures. Odd what they thought was important. ;-)

  • Congrats, Meg! It’s quite an accomplishment these days to make it past the 10 year mark.

    Pics are beautiful too!

Sorry Don is in so much pain. That has to suck! I’m sure with your excellent care, he will be up and at em in no time.

    • Thanks, Kira!
This journey with Don has truly made me a better and stronger woman. I wouldn’t change a thing that has happened, and I sure as heck don’t want to go back. ;-)

I’m truly amazed at how strong he is. And what a great humbler (?) for a hero to be so dependant on another person.

  • Aw, Meg, I’m sorry I missed this when you posted. I hope Don is feeling a little better–though I can’t imagine there’s a whole lot he can manage on his own with both shoulders in slings.
Did you know you married two years before my kidlet’s birthday? :-)
Yeah, I had a gaggle of girls at my house this weekend.
    Sending healing vibes your way!

    • Thanks, Margaret! He can manage better than I thought.
You are still sane after a gaggle of girls this weekend? Congrats on the kiddo’s 9th birthday. She’s growing up so fast!

      Thanks for the healing vibes.

  • Thanks, Shane, for dropping by. Your site has some cool stuff on it for the Wii!

    Come back soon!
    Happy Thanksgiving.
