Twisted Sister Meg here:
Why do we like certain shows and not others? For me it is the character development. I don’t need to know their life history the first show to be interested in a character. The second is the writing. Nothing stupid or too hokey. For a show to be good, it needs to combine GMC and HEA. There is always a specific goal, motivation to solve the case, and of course, the villain doesn’t want to be discovered. Loose ends and a satisfying conclusion will all be neatly packaged.
One of my favorite drama shows is BONES. I listed a few of the reasons why:
1. David Boreanaz is just hot–IMHO That Seeley Booth was a sniper and has baggage makes him a bit dangerous and safe at the same time. He is honorable, courageous and won’t hesitate to kill.
2. Emily Deschanel’s character, Dr. Temperance Brennan, is a hoot. Some of her naivety and lack of social skills is funny. I wish I could get away with saying what I think. I like her intelligence and being kick-ass.
3. The supporting characters are all well-defined–Angela, Zach, Sweets, and Hodgins. I would love to be friends with all of them.
4. They have cool jobs and a neat place to work. Even though I know that some of the uber ‘technology’ doesn’t always translate into real life, I can suspend some of my disbelief while enjoying the show.
5. Kathy Reichs rocks.
Do you have a favorite drama series that you watch and why?

Confession time- I’m a House addict!
I find Huge Laurie’s character, Dr. Gregory House unbelievably Hot, he’s a master manipulator, and the whole intelligent-but-damaged character is really appealing to me. With each episode I wonder, how they are going to diagnose the patient- also what kind of scheme he’s thinking about doing…:)
Hey, Lua!
House is a strange character. Thanks for chiming in!
Hrm…don’t watch tv. Not my thing. I have wanted to watch Castle because I’ve heard good things about it, but I’m so busy, I never remember when the show is coming on.
I’d rather have a good book anyway.
True, Ash! At the end of the night, I don’t always have enough brain cells to focus on a book.
I just started watching Bones this year — though in reruns. It’s on twice Sunday evenings, and the first episode I saw caught me enough that I bought the first season on DVD.
I routinely watch Ghost Whisperer, NCIS (has Mark Harmon aged well or what??), Criminal Minds, and Medium (I love Det. Scanlon — my favorite TV guy!) and try to catch Cold Case when I can. Any other time the TV’s on, it’s PBS or GW/CM in reruns.
Hey, Marilyn–
Yep…I love those shows too. And you got me interested in CM when I hadn’t given it much thought.
