nuevo meg

I’ve been looking forward to this day for a whole year, no many years. I had no clue this particular year would be so emotionally and physically draining. If the journey is like going down a road, mine has been filled with sinkholes.

With really deep holes comes the chance to explore them. Okay, you knew I’d have to have a diving reference at some point.

Today’s blog is for Don though. Today is your last day of working for someone else. Thirty-seven years of serving your country–some of the time the people were ungrateful, you Jack-booted Thug!  :-)

I know you thought that at those times that no matter what you did the bad guys were just replaced with other bad guys. But it did make a difference, if only to one person. You helped that one person, or supported those you worked with to keep them safe. Their family appreciated them walking back through the door. That you never got to see–I did. You might not have noticed that I hugged you tighter, held on a bit longer.

Those long days on the road or working in nasty filthy conditions, the hotel meals, time away from your children, seeing the very worst that man can do to man, the night terrors that still plague you, you did your job. Wow..how many people can say that?

So, my love, here’s to 2013 where we start a new adventure of retirement. A time I’ve waited to celebrate with you.

Congratulations, Don! Sounds like he deserves a calm, peaceful retirement. As do you. By the way, does he know you posted this “cute” picture of him?

      LOL, Debbie!
      He does now.
Thank you for the warm wishes. His retirement will be anything but peaceful…oh, I’ll give him a couple days to catch his breath. ;-)

He’ll be running wild and up to mischief in no time, I bet. He’s not a man to sit still for long.
