Have you noticed how often some people are “offended?” I can understand some things–like smoking in an enclosed place, or littering. If you don’t like what you read on Facebook, either skip it or unfriend that person. This what I don’t really understand–why do some people believe it is their right to shout down what doesn’t agree with them?
I was involved in a writers’ group that I loved deeply but because of the voices of a few who were loud, it disbanded.
Yesterday, I read a few posts by others expressing their opinion, which weren’t mine. I wasn’t offended or thought TSTL about them, I didn’t unfriend them, or–gasp, say I was the big O–OFFENDED. I acknowledge their right to say what they feel, and I ask the same. You don’t have to like it, but at times, I feel as if I’m not allowed the right to express my opinion because I might offend a reader. For a writer, that means sales. Kinda sad in a way.
A wise man’s words to me the other day were to not screw up my portion of this world, try to leave it a better place than I found it, and to love hard. Thanks, Appledoodle!
Let’s not be so ‘offended’ by differences. Be a bit more like unpublished writers and rhinos. Develop a thicker skin.

Three things: 1. To thine own self be true. Your readers and friends expect honesty from you. The world would be a boring place if we all believed the same thing. Often, in the discussion of a controversial topic, I am furhter committed to my point of view. Sometimes I even reframe it and see their view a little more clearly. 2. Hellooooo? First amendment? 3. It takes a lot to offend me. I don’t think of offensive behavior when considering the big “O”. Quite the contrary, as a matter of fact.. Ahem. ;-D. I love to read what you write.
Thanks, Deb!
Nice to know someone likes me.
Yeah, I sometimes think PC has gotten way out of hand.
Yep!!!
