NOur area’s had two snows in the past week. (Yo, weather guys! Look up the definition of “blizzard.” This was the lamest one ever.)

Last Wednesday I got a snow day. I felt almost giddy, as if I were back in grade school. We prayed for snow days then, and to quote one of my favorite Christmas songs, “a childhood prayer should never be denied.” We bundled up, went out for hours and slid down the big hill of our neighbors’ driveway on a round metal Coca-Cola sign. Wish I still had that kind of energy. Wish I still had that sign, too.

On Monday — Blizzard Day – the snow didn’t even start until late in the evening, and when I got up to make my three a.m. wander, it was already melting. No snow day. Just a day with snow. Not even fun.

There’s still a chance for one lovely snow day. Oklahoma has gotten some of its heaviest snowfalls in March. We’ll see.

Yeah, one of the anticipated benefitsnof retirement for me was the thought that when a blizzard was forecasted, I wouldn’t have to drive into the hospital or sleep over to cover call-ins. How can I enjoy that if all the blizzards fizzle out?

Isn’t that the truth? I hated bad weather when Bob was working because all I did was worry about him out on the streets. But now . . . we would just build a fire, have coffee and tea and roast some marshmallows and enjoy it . . . if we ever GET it.

I’m so glad the snow didn’t reach down here. I’ve had enough.

It’s funny that you guys have had so much more snow than we have, when you’re so much farther south. If you get more, send it our way so you can stay nice and warm.
